Crisis Track’s Survivor Portal

Survivor Portal

After a disaster, state and local offices of emergency management focus damage assessment efforts on damaged properties. A gap in this approach is a basic understanding of the survivor needs:

  • What is their current living status?
  • How many are in the household and what ages?
  • What are today’s unmet needs for health, housing, childcare, or employment?
  • How can a survivor be contacted to provide further assistance?

After a disaster survivors want to know that the local governments are listening to their needs. The results of this canvassing can help so various local and state agencies can provide services when survivors need them the most.

What is it?

The Survivor Portal is an add-on that lets people affected by disasters submit information about property damage and personal needs through an organization’s own Survivor Portal website. This add-on expands the functionality of the Resident Self-Report feature. Both features allow people to submit information about property damage, but the Survivor Portal also lets people describe their needs, such as lack of food, medicine, or transportation. As needs change, the Survivor Portal allows people to update their submissions. The information people submit is tied to an incident and appears in Crisis Track as entries for that incident.
