Long Term Healthcare Facilities asked to use new federal COVID-19 data reporting standards

This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) released new reporting standards for data related to Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF).

This eagerly anticipated data standard comes on the heels of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)  communicating last week that the request and methodology would be forthcoming.

Juvare’s EMResource solution is uniquely suited to support these data aggregating and reporting requirements and activities in a similar way to how the solution is currently used by thousands of healthcare systems and hospitals to report data during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Long Term Care facilities will be required to submit data to the federal government via one of several approved methods, one of which includes the NHSN’s new COVID-19 Module for Long Term Care Facilities. The methodology will help these facilities with tracking infections and prevention processes. Data entered into the new module will include Resident Impact and Facility Capacity, Staff and Personnel Impacts, Supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Ventilator Capacity and Supplies.

Given the flexibility and configurability of EMResource – and use of EMResource by hospitals and state public health agencies already integrated with the NHSN – this process can be easily adapted in EMResource to accommodate the new LTCF data reporting process requirements. EMResource logs each instance of data aggregation so this information can be accessed quickly and easily, and ensures data meets the quality requirements of CDC when automatically submitting it.

EMResource is the leading cloud-based resource management solution designed to equip healthcare and emergency response practitioners with practical, convenient, and holistic operational views of area, regional, and enterprise-wide resources that range from individual beds to entire facilities and from trailer caches to helicopters.

Last month, hospitals were asked to use the NHSN’s COVID-19 module to report data on bed and ventilator capacity, how many patients are being mechanically ventilated, the total number of ventilators available, and the number of ventilators in use.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 4,000 hospitals, state public health agencies, and regional healthcare coalitions have been using Juvare solutions such as EMResource and EMSupply to gather and track necessary data including bed availabilities and census counts, as well as resources such as ventilators and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as N95 and surgical masks, respirators, and isolation gowns.

Public Health agencies have also been using EMResource to identify and monitor the volume of COVID-19 patients seen in emergency departments, and the number admitted to hospitals. These same agencies are employing EMResource to distribute the latest CDC information to healthcare workers and providers in their areas.

Long Term Healthcare Facilities not currently using EMResource should consider the benefits of using EMResource to facilitate expanded COVID-19 data collection needs. In light of these new requirements, Juvare can expedite implementation, setup, and training to use the solution quickly.
