Background in Emergency Management: After retiring from the military I served as the Director of the State Operations Center with Georgia Emergency Management Center (GEMA) for 10 years. In that capacity I worked with Federal, State, Local and Volunteer partners to assist fellow Georgians during natural and man-made disasters. One of the highlights of my time at GEMA was implementing WebEOC throughout the State and seeing the enhancements WebEOC made in our daily and emergency operations.
What Do You Love Most About Your Job?: The satisfaction I get from working on WebEOC projects, interfacing with various EMA organizations, the pleasant group of co-workers I have and the willingness of teammates to assist me in learning.
Why Juvare?: I strongly believe in WebEOC and have found that Juvare is led by a team that is genuinely interested in product improvements and caring for people.
Most Important Quality You’ve Observed in Successful Emergency/Incident Management Professionals:
In addition to integrity, calmness under pressure, professional education/experience, I would say the ability to develop solid relationships with people throughout all levels of government and the private sector.
What is the Future of Emergency/Critical Incident Management?
The changing weather patterns speak for themselves. This coupled with population growth and the ever-present potential for man-made disasters will keep Emergency Managers busy. Education, hands-on training and real-world experience are critical for the young professionals entering the field. We must continue to implement new technology without losing sight of the need to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with partners in all sectors.
