As the recent Health and Human Services (HHS) Letter to Hospital Administrators describes, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has identified the importance of hospitals in the national fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Not only are hospitals at the forefront of physically testing, treating, and caring for people with COVID-19, but hospitals are also being asked to submit daily reports about testing, capacity, supplies, utilization, and patient flows in an effort to compile accurate statistics that facilitate the national public health response.

Hospitals have been sharing this information with state and federal agencies in a range of formats for weeks; however, as of Friday, April 10, 2020, the Secretary of Health and Human Services defined the data sets that the federal government expects from hospital administrators.

As the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) identifies the COVID-19 Module, which currently consists of three data sets or pathways, including:

  • Patient Impact and Hospital Capacity
  • Healthcare Worker Staffing
  • Healthcare Supply

The COVID-19 Module encourages daily reporting on patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses, use and availability of hospital beds and ventilators, as well as healthcare staffing and supply status and availability. The federal government recommends using existing or building new data reporting capabilities to meet the current and ongoing mandated reporting requirements.

Juvare’s EMResource meets those needs. EMResource is a resource management solution that equips healthcare and emergency response practitioners with holistic operational views of regional and enterprise-wide resources ranging from individual beds to entire facilities and from trailer caches to helicopters.

Most hospitals in the country have been using EMResource for weeks to report COVID-driven data in real time to state public health departments.  Juvare is poised to rapidly stand-up the new reporting protocols to ensure compliance with current reporting standards, while continuing to provide states with the visibility needed to manage their COVID response operations.  In addition, Juvare will provide the data submission service, removing that obligation from hospital staff.

Juvare clients should work with their Client Success Managers or contact us here to take advantage of this opportunity to streamline the data reporting and submission process.

EMSupply is being used to manage and track both consumable and durable supply inventory – such as caches and distribution of N95 masks, gowns, and gloves, as well as managing the maintenance and tracking use and distribution of assets such as ventilators, PAPRs, and other equipment. EMSupply is proactively alerting users when critical thresholds (such as resupply and par levels) are met, and when preventative maintenance is due.
